Floor Covering Basics

The Belmont College Floorcovering Basics program is an accelerated five-day workforce training course designed to prepare students for entry-level careers in flooring installation and the construction trades. Through hands-on instruction, real-world installation scenarios, and industry-informed training, participants gain practical skills in carpet, vinyl, laminate, and hard-surface flooring while learning workplace safety, tool usage, material handling, and professional jobsite practices.

Built in partnership with industry professionals, this program provides direct exposure to employer expectations and career pathways throughout East Ohio and the Upper Ohio Valley.

Hands-On Training

Students learn by doing. Through Belmont College's industry-focused training labs, participants gain practical experience installing and repairing a variety of flooring systems using professional-grade tools, materials, and techniques. Under the guidance of our partners Floor Covering Basics, Certified Flooring Installers (CFI), and Trade Tapp, students complete real-world projects that build confidence, craftsmanship, problem-solving skills, and the safe work practices expected by today's flooring employers.

Industry Certification

Students complete nationally recognized training through Certified Flooring Installers (CFI), demonstrating competency in the essential skills required for entry into the flooring industry. Graduates earn industry-recognized credentials that validate their technical knowledge, installation techniques, safety awareness, and readiness for employment. As the institution of record, Belmont College documents successful completion of the training, providing students with both academic recognition and industry credentials valued by employers.

Career Opportunities

The flooring industry continues to experience strong demand for skilled professionals across residential, commercial, and industrial construction. Belmont College partners with industry employers to connect students with apprenticeship opportunities, entry-level employment, continuing education, and long-term career pathways. Graduates leave the program prepared to pursue careers with flooring contractors, retailers, installation companies, commercial construction firms, and union apprenticeship programs while building the skills needed for career advancement.

Verified Trade Index (VTI)

At the onset of the program, students establish a Verified Trade Index (VTI) profile through Trade-Tapp, creating a secure digital portfolio of their training, certifications, and verified skills. This portable credential wallet allows graduates to share verified accomplishments with employers, maintain a permanent record of completed training, add future certifications throughout their careers, and gain visibility to national employment opportunities and continuing education across the United States.
